Once an application has been submitted to the FMCSA, the fee paid, and the application has been approved the freight broker will be assigned a Motor Carrier Number.

All brokers are required to have insurance or a bond in the amount of $10,000 as proof of financial responsibility. Unless you have this protection in place, you can’t be authorized a freight broker authority, so make sure to pay attention to this important detail.
